Iznájar Marsh is situated on the river Genil, it covers an area of three provinces (Cordoba, Granada and Malaga). It is often popularly called the lake of Andalucia.
With a capacity of 981 million cubic meters, it covers an area of 2522 hectares with a perimeter of 100 kilometers and a length of 32 kilometers making it the third largest in Andalusia and Spain. It lies at an altitude of 380 meters. It was inaugurated on June 6, 1969.
Its area occupies the municipalities of Iznajar and Rute in Córdoba, Loja in Granada and Cuevas de San Marcos in Málaga. It has infrastructure for water sports such as sailing, canoeing, water skiing, etc.. in the area known as El Embarcadero.
It belongs to the Guadalquivir River Basin.
The reservoir is located in the Central Hydroelectric Malaga term of Cuevas de San Marcos water dam, the dam type is gravity.
